Description

Commodities are things of value, of uniform quality, that were produced in large quantities by many different

producers; the items from each different producer were considered equivalent. On a commodity exchange, it is the

underlying standard stated in the contract that defines the commodity.

Commodities are divided on soft (wheat, coffee, cocoa and sugar) and hard (gold and oil).

Commodity markets can include physical trading and derivatives trading using spot prices, forwards, futures, and

options on futures. Farmers have used a simple form of derivative trading in the commodity market for centuries for

price risk management. The course covers key features of commodities and commodity derivatives
