ISTQB is one of the most well-known industry bodies in the software testing field and plays a significant role in shaping both software testing as an activity as well as the role of the software tester. It is dedicated to improving the profession by maintaining a Body of Knowledge, which allows testers to be certified, based on best practices, connecting the international software testing community and encouraging research.

The Foundation Level is the first step in the certification process. It is aimed at individuals who are looking to start a career in testing or those who are involved in these activities and are looking to test their knowledge and skills against industry best practices. This includes people in roles such as testers, test analysts, test engineers, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers and software developers.

This Foundation Level qualification is also appropriate for anyone who wants a basic understanding of software testing, such as project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants. Holders of the Foundation Certificate will be able to go on to a higher level software testing qualification.
